To promote wellness and mindfulness, on a Monday afternoon we have a visit from Joanne to perform massage therapy for our residents and team members.
Joanne offers a traditional Indian head massage performed seated in a chair, fully clothed. This massage works on the tension areas of upper back, neck, shoulders, and scalp. Oils can be added to the scalp massage on request or performed dry. Perfect for easing tense shoulders/scalp or anyone unable to lie flat on a massage bed. Alternatively Joanne also offers a simple hand massage.
As we age, one of the most important things they can do to maintain their health is to take care of their bodies. One way to achieve this is through regular massage sessions. Here are some of the benefits of massage therapy for older people:
-
Improved circulation: As we age, circulation becomes more challenging, and blood vessels can become more constricted, leading to an array of health problems. Massage can help to increase blood flow and oxygen to the body’s tissues and organs, which can help to reduce the risk of circulatory issues.
-
Reduced muscle tension and pain: Older people often suffer from body aches and pains, which can be alleviated through massage therapy. By relaxing muscles and releasing tension, massage can help to decrease pain and improve mobility.
-
Better sleep: Sleep quality can diminish with age, and insufficient sleep can cause a host of problems such as depression, anxiety, and cognitive decline. Massage can aid in relaxation, reduce anxiety, and promote better sleep quality.
-
Improved emotional health: Older people may struggle with emotional issues, such as loneliness, anxiety, or grief. Massage can help to reduce stress levels and improve mood, leading to a greater sense of well-being.
-
Enhance overall quality of life: By improving circulation, reducing pain, aiding in better sleep, and aiding in better emotional health, massage can help to improve overall quality of life for older individuals.
In conclusion, massage therapy can provide a multitude of benefits for older people, including improved circulation, reduced muscle tension and pain, better sleep, improved emotional health, better immune system function, and an enhanced overall quality of life.
